Foundational Correction for Migraines and Headaches
Stuck on the couch or in a dark room with a painful headache or migraine during this beautiful fall weather? You’re not alone. By taking away the ability to complete the most basic tasks, headaches and migraines can be a real pain in the neck! At Balance Chiropractic, our non-traditional approach is aimed to discover if an underlying neck problem could be causing the pain in your head!
The research shows that millions of people are CURRENTLY dealing with a headache or migraine… BUT, just because they are common does NOT mean they are NORMAL
How can a spinal misalignment cause headaches and migraines?
Headaches can seem to show up out of no where, however when they persist and the root cause isn’t found… the issue may get worse and become chronic.
If the upper neck has shifted, an irritation of the nerve bundles that coordinate blood vessels to the brain may occur. This irritation can cause a constriction of blood flow and increased muscular tonicity leading to head pain. Although most patients with headaches and migraines also present with neck pain, it is not always the case. See several other reasons below that can cause headaches and consider them if you are currently suffering.
- Illness – having a cold, flu, infection, depression, etc.
- Environment – noise, lighting, allergens, smoke, changes in air pressure, etc.
- Stress – emotional stress, hormonal changes, injury, alcohol use, poor posture, neck or back strain, etc.
So what? It’s just a headache, I get them all the time!
As we said before, there is no such thing as a normal migraine (and they are definitely not due to a lack of ibuprofen or Tylenol), but even “minor” headaches can be debilitating, and they often cause extreme difficulty completing even the most basic tasks.
You are not alone—with over 100 different types of headaches, it is important to experiment with various treatments to see what will work best for you in your life. The types of headaches Balance Chiropractic often helps people with include:
- Neck (Cervicogenic) Headaches
- Migraine Headaches
- Jaw (TMJ) Headaches
- Sinus Headaches
- Cluster Headaches
- Tension Headaches
The most common type of headache we see is a Tension Headache. These are characterized by pain at the base of the skull that wraps around the head like a headband. This type of headache is generally perpetuated by poor posture, traumatic injuries to the head and neck, poor working or sleeping conditions, or an overload of psychological stress
Migraines: Not just a headache
Migraines occur less frequently than tension headaches, but unfortunately for most patients, they are more debilitating. Sufferers most often express migraines as a great sensitivity to light, sound, and even smells, potentially resulting in nausea and vomiting. Migraine pain is typically felt on one side of the head and is described as intense, throbbing, and/or piercing… We think the most terrible part about migraine headaches is that they can last anywhere from 4 hours to 3 days.
If any type of headache is a common occurrence for you or a loved one, it is recommended to get your upper neck specifically and objectively checked. If the upper neck has shifted (otherwise known as a Foundational Shift) it may play a strong contribution in the causal and therefore correctional components of many different headache types.
Get your head on straight with Foundational Correction
When seeking headache or migraine treatment, the underlying causes such as vertebral misalignments are often completely overlooked by traditional medicine. If left uncorrected, misalignments can lead to increased recurrence of headaches, prolonged muscle imbalance, and neurological dysfunction. The next time you suffer from head pain, remember that headache and migraine relief could actually be as simple as getting an appropriate assessment and correction to the foundation of your spine and nervous system.
At Balance Chiropractic in Colorado Springs, our goal is not to pop, twist or crack the spine based off pain or symptoms, but to gently and precisely correct the upper neck by utilizing 4 objective measurements to see if someone is a candidate and track progress through a correctional process. If this misalignment is determined to be the root cause of your head pain, then correcting your foundation could be a sustainable solution for relief from headaches and migraine pain.
Foundational Correction is very controlled and is often described as underwhelming, with patients feeling no more than a slight pressure behind their ear. It’s been compared to being no more intrusive than having your pulse taken.
Proper headache and migraine treatment can drastically improve your life. At Balance Chiropractic in Colorado Springs, our team of Foundational Chiropractors can help you to feel stronger, happier, healthier, and more focused when we provide headache and migraine relief in Colorado Springs.
